Can anyone reccommend a breakdown service?

I am covered with Greenflag as an add on with my insurance but I have quite a low level cover. I broke down in West Sussex yesterday and they sent out a local recovery truck. He showed up and the problem was sort of rectified but he reccommended I didn't continue with my drive back to Oxford as he couldn't promise the problem wouldn't happen again. As I can only be recovered within 10 miles, he called the company who would tow me back (80 odd miles) and they wanted to charge £250! I decided to try my luck and made it home thankfully but I need to now look at a better breakdown package.

i have always stuck with the AA, not the cheapest but it covers the person not the car they also give priority to lone women.
I agree with chas2008. the AA are by far the best company. I have been with the "rac" and was left for 5 hours strandad, the AA are a superior company with text updates and after phonecalls. Plus they do offer some great deals on other services. Keep an eye out on their website as they often have deals on. good luck and happy xmas
I'm with the AA ... it's very rare that I have called on their services. But they have been excellent and arrived within the hour.
For my works van I'm with the RAC .. they have also turned up within the hour.
Last month I thought my renawal with the AA was too expensive, so I phoned them up and told them I would be ending my membership, and joining the RAC as they were cheaper.
They immediately price matched ... Breakdown service and relay for 2 people ..£71
I'm currently with the RAC but that's only because I got a year's free membership with my motoring insurance.

Otherwise these are the people I'd normally go with. Cheap but totally dependable:
