"Hypothetical" situation-
3 friends (A, B and C) are going to a show in a town around 25 miles from where they live. 2 of them (A and B) can drive; A doesn't want to becasue she hasn't driven in the town where the show is before. B has so reluctantly said she would drive but has asked for £5 petrol money off A and C. A said that her and C would pay for parking (instead of petrol money) B isn't very happy about this. What are your thoughts?

the petrol money should be shared, what would you do if B decides not to drive? she's already reluctant.
Why not (roughly) work out the cost of petrol + the cost of parking and divide by 3?
Go on the train then the situation won't arise! If we use cars for travel for work we get about 25p a mile, so a 50 mile round trip would cost us £12.50 each. The parking wouldn't be nearly that much. A fiver for petrol (if she's paying for parking) doesn't seem too unreasonable - but you could argue that if she was going on her own, she'd be paying it all anyway.
"A doesn't want to becasue she hasn't driven in the town where the show is before"

???

I'm sure the roads in that town are also made of tarmac and people drive on the left hand side

Only a female could use an excuse like that!
why dont you book a private taxi. then share it between ya's

or make your own transport and meet up at the even :)
a 50 mile round trip and A and C only want to cough up for the parking!! .. tight @rses! lol.
so B is willing to get them there, while A and C sit back and relax and enjoy the ride, also B has to forgo having a drink if they wanted one while the others can,
and with the price of petrol today, errm i think £2.50 from each to get them there and back is far from unreasonable.
and re the parking, yeah they can split that between the 3 of them.
Add the petrol and parking money together and divide it 3 ways.
Unfortunately Joe you are right, I know women who would use that excuse. I think B is right and at a fiver each A&C are getting a cheap deal.

Looby- £5 was asked from each so £10 altogether.
Train is £12.50 so even more expensive, also think taxi would be a lot!
Sophie......are you A, B or C?
yeah, i understood that £5 was asked from both of them.....

what i was saying is, theyre getting let off light...
In every car pool or shared journey, the passengers 'usually' abide by the wishes of the driver. And if something is important to the driver, then it should be clearly stated to the passengers.

If passengers don't agree, they are not entitled to a ride. Also, driver and passengers must agree prior to the start of the journey or the establishement of a car pool

I see! I'm B, didn't want people to be biased (not that they usually are on here!) and am pleased with the answers! I have offered to pay for the parking (think it's £2.50) to alleviate some of the tension; C is being fine about it by the way it is A that is being annoying!

I have to say, you're going to spoil a night out with this quibbling.

is it worth it over a fiver for a 50 mile chauffeured trip?
I do a £56 mile round trip to/ from work 5 days a week now, it is about £8 worth of petrol a day in my 307, £5 each is taking into account the wear and tear and the petrol anyway.
apologies Sophie, I somehow thought you were being A!

That's what worries me sara!
tell A to bugger off ;o)
Question Author
Ah no problems, does still worry me though; for the sake of a tenner would I be better off backing down and not asking for money off either of them? Or should I stick because of the principle?
