Is there anything along the lines of an A-Z work-through guide to fault finding troubleshooting available on the net?  

   Something similar to the ends of each section of a Hayne`s manual perhaps?

I dont know of any such sites personally ianess, but if you post a question i will do my best, mate !

Hi ianess

You can try this website, they have different sections.. auto, electrical, etc. It should give you some insight on where to look.
