I believe The freelanders also have a switch under the bonnet , this may be worth checking to make sure the switch has not moved (it shud have a rubber grommet over it by the bulkhead ), also the tailgate glass needs to be closed properly as that also has a switch on it to move the glass into position after you have closed it , is it anything to do with the icy weather we...

yeh it sounds like the door sensor to me, cus its a newish car im assumin, should be under warranty.
cool can you get an 8 year warranty? (im assuming 02 is the year)

check the sensor in the doors by having one door open at a time (including the boot) and push on the sensor to see if it cancels out the warning light
oooops, i thought that was meant to mean freelander 2. hehehe. autobagger, dont be silly, an 8 year warranty is v. unlikely, hehehe my bad.

Hi, , when you open the door look at the lock retainer on the pillar itself there is are plastic plungers on each metal catch on the pillar, try each one in-turn.
I believe The freelanders also have a switch under the bonnet , this may be worth checking to make sure the switch has not moved (it shud have a rubber grommet over it by the bulkhead ), also the tailgate glass needs to be closed properly as that also has a switch on it to move the glass into position after you have closed it , is it anything to do with the icy weather we are having ?? i would certainly check those first off especially the heated rear door glass to make sure its functioning properly , you can also trick it with a screwdriver to make it thinks its closed when its open . just flick the switch in the lock with a screwdriver! and then check it , best of luck .
