Is the clutch an intrinsic part of the functioning of an ABS system?

NO.
It's linked to the brake system via a monitoring method onto the wheels/brake discs.
The brakes and clutch are seperate functions entirely.
the only other things normally linked to the ABS are traction control which uses the same wheel speed sensors.
