I have heard various stories concerning the act of changing the batteries in an ignition key of a R reg Renault Megane.

This key operates the door locks, disables the anti-theft device and starts the car.

Once a RAC man changed one in his van for me free of charge.

I once took one to a motorist discount shop, and was told it was of the infra-red type and it had to be carried out at the main dealers, because it had to be re-programmed, and it could cost about 30, a complete replacement key would cost over 100.

The drivers manual just tells you to unscrew the cover and replace the two batteries, it even lists the batteries numbers.

I took it to the main dealers, the chap unscrewed the cover, replaced the two batteries, total cost just 6.51.

Anyone else had experience of these Renault keys?
