I have recently purchased a C220cdi Automatic. On three occasions, when it is very cold I have selected D for drive and the vehicles has refused to change up. The first two occasions it did so after I moved the gearstick up and down a few times, the last time (it was much much colder) the car took longer to rectify the problem, then the car was fine all day . I know that the Handbook to the gearbox re Catalytic transmission, however can this be cured or is it just one of those things that will eventually go away.

Hi i've a couple of the later merc's and if i remember correctly, it's late change up on cold days are to give the cats a chance to warm up properly, so the colder it gets the longer to change up also if left out side and not started it will take longer ,short of letting it idle to warm up there's not much anyone can do as its controlled by the electronics that's also why once its been started and got warm it generally ok the next few times started later same day
