On Fifth Gear this evening they were showing that a car may be worth more as scrap than as a cheap banger. So how much would a Ford Scorpio with alloy wheels be worth to a scrap merchant if I sold mine and what would he pay me for it? Incidentally, I`m only curious, I love my old Scorp.

Sorry Zacs, that doesn`t tell me, I`ll make a local enquirie.
I heard a guy talking about this on the radio - he indicated that a "large" car, which I guess would include a Scorpio, would be worth 80-100. And no hassle with potential purchasers kicking the tyres and questions about MOT and road tax.

I think I`ll hang on to it till it falls apart. It`s never let me down in ten years and would break my old ticker to see her crushed.
if i had a scorpio i wouldnt part with it either, scrap prices do tend to change as quite frequently, were i live you get 100pnd a vehicle.or take the alloys off and weigh them in youself.but id be keepin it

Am told scrap value for cars are 30 - if collected and increases if delivered. Scrap cars (uninsured) can only stand on private land else they are subject to fines.

Appreciate all replies guys, i`ve heard that there are some a**s`s going around at night-time and nicking the `cat`s` also for the high value of their mercury and other content, so if you`ve got a garage.....keep it in there and off the road.
