I have had four portable dvd players for my lorry and every one has had the screen blow after a short time of playing. Is there anything I can buy as a surge protector or do to prevent it happening again.

Agree bigboots answer sounds most likely. Trucks are 24V and will blow any 12V equipment. Many trucks now have a dedicated 12V socket somewhere on the dash, otherwise you will either have to buy a 24V-12V dropper, or run a cable round from just one of the batteries.
