my boys is coming up to 17 whots the best car a seventeen year old to learn to drive in as i am going to buy him one. im spending about 2500

save your money and use it to go on a english course,learning to read and write.

The best way for your son to learn to drive is with an approved driving school.

If you really must buy him a car as soon as he is 17 look for a small car with a small engine - the smaller the better.

The insurance will easily be �1500 even then.

Dear Scorpious (just as well you didn`t call yourself scrupulous), I think you meant "Eton". Oh, shouldn`t that be bovered? Anyhow, getting back to the point of this normally friendly site, anything under 1.2 litres will be realistically insurable for your offspring.

Sorry, I should have said: anything 1.2 litres (they`re normally 1198cc) or below should be economical to insure for a young driver.

Just get him an old knackered Vauxhall Corsa and let him do the usual job on it, alloy wheels, loud stereo, tail fin and a paint job. That's what most 17 to 21 year olds drive around in. Oh and make sure it's black....

Fiat Bravo, around W reg or so, the 1.2 16 valve one looks ok and drives spot on also it has a decent locking system and airbags.

Avoid what most people do and try and get an old banger as insurance will be higher as the lockws aren't as good.

i wouldnt htink an insurance company will worry about locks on a car when a 17 yr old is involved. theyll worry more about the standar of driving for someone so inexpereinced

Lots of factors are taken into account when insurance is purchased and security of a car would lower a premium by a lot if the car has anti theft deterants.

Need to start somewhere regardless of age.
