Passenger side wing mirror damage

Hi oh clever ones.. (grovel, grovel lol)

I heard a loud bang last night outside my house - couldn't see anything obviously wrong at the time but when I got into my Fiat Bravo this morning, I realised that some wonderfully mannered fellow driver had managed to *whack* my passenger side wing mirror so hard that the mirror itself is cracked .... I managed to straighten up the wing mirror itself but am having trouble seeing much through all the cracks and perforations in the mirror....

Is it possible to buy a suitably sized adhesive mirror to stick on top of the existing cracked one (the electrics are fine, I am still able to adjust the angle etc) or do I have to get hold of a total replacement wing mirror ?

It's an X reg Fiat Bravo 1.6 L if that is any use...

Get the correct one from Fiats, won't cost much more than the wrong one at halfords.

Sticking one on top of the cracked one will soon burn out the small motors when you adjust it.

Ahhhh, thanks Toureman... that is useful advice.... I'd not thought about overloading the little motors - presumably by the extra weight of the stuck on mirror. Since they are the only way I can adjust the mirror, I don't really want to lose them.

Well, I purchased a new mirror glass (a proper Lucas spare part) and it arrived safe and sound this morning... I then removed the old cracked one (carefully because it was glass) only to find that the old one has two little wires attached to a pad on the rear, running from the wee motor that Toureman mentions. The new one is exactly the right shape and size but has a gap in the adhesive backing where the wire pad would be. Am I correct in thinking that I've bought the wrong mirror glass ? I did check in my Haynes Manual and the car manual but there is nothing mentioned about changing the glass in an electrically adjustable mirror, just how to change the whole mirror assembly itself. The site I purchased the mirror glass only lists the two mirror glass types I purchased (left and right) - there's no listing for an *electric* version.... doh
