The expansion tank on my vauxhall astra 1.7cdti 2004 club estate is always needing topping up can someone tell me what I should do?

sounds like you might have a leak, if its not a visable leak check your oil and if the dipstick comes out grey looking it means you have a leak into the oil this comes curtsey of mr madboutcats not me.

Are you topping it over the max? if you are then the engine is blowing it out as it needs this room for the water to expand into once it gets hot.

If it keeps emptying totally, then you most probably have a leak, there could be a variety of leaks and reasons why its leaking.
