I am considering renting a lock-up garage in the UK and want to know if it is possible to get some sort of insurance policy to cover the building and contents (I currently do not have any other property insurance e.g home insurance). Does anyone know of any insurance company that can offer such a policy? Also, the insurance would also have to cover the actual garage in case of damage e.g fire.

If you are renting it is normal practice for the owner to insure the actual building against fire and other damage.

Telephone your local insurance broker for quotes - it shouldn't be too dear.

If you are only parking a car in there, extra insurance won't be necessary.

I would be using the garage as a small workshop and therefore I plan to store and use some expensive equipment e.g aprox 10,000 worth.
Local broker, then.
