i was stoped by police and told that the car i was driving had no insurence, i was not worried as i knew i had the policey at home. the police then phoned budget and i was told over the phone that my cover had been cancelled, but not by me.

I think that your insurance issues are not the only problems that you have.
You need to phone your insurance company and find out who cancelled your insurance. (I assume that the insurance was taken out by you), and what they are going to do about it.
If it is your insurance policy and it was cancelled by somebody else without your permission, I would have thought that you could take action against them. If it is someone elses policy - with you on it - and it was cancelled or you were removed, then it will be your fault for not checking that you are covered.

how did the police know that you did not have insurance?

i dont know they asked me to sit in the back of there car and thats when they told me the car had no insurence, i then phoned and was told that the policy had been closed when by there opperrator when i opened a new policy for my partner as she had got a new car, but at no time did i instrucked the opperator,who i must stress had a problem at times understanding me, as i know i had to keep asking her to repeat herself becouse i didont understandher. but at no time did i instrucked her to cancel any policy
