exaust pipe seems to be blowing up at top end ,where it is bolted to manifold,when tightened ,it seems ok,after a few miles ,it starts to blow again?,is this a common problem with astra,s

It appears that you don't even know what type of car you have.
I've never had a Ford, and none of my Astras have suffered this.
if it is an astra as you say the downpipes on these cars have spring loaded bolts for flexibility, it sounds like the springs have stretched thus not holding the downpipe onto the manifold tightly enough. replace the bolts/springs and the seal and that should solve your problem. (same prob on some early corsas also)
