If my girlfriend buys tax for her car online, can she drive straight away or does she have to wait for the disc to arrive before she can use the vehicle ?.
It is currently s.o.r.n.

It is an offence not to show a valid tax disc on the vehicle.
tigga - you're lucky Toureman didn't condescendingly tell you to contact the DVLA or look on their website! :o)
It probably won't let you buy on line anyway. I've never succeeded and both my cars are fully legal.
as soon as they have agreed the transaction and it's gone through,(print it out ) you can drive on the road. even though it's an offense not to display a disc the plod are only interested in people who don't have tax. if you do get stopped the print out proves you have it and you should be ok. if there is anything else wrong with the car thats a different matter.

Thanks all, as panic button said, the website was a load of rubbish - the insurance certificate arrived by post quicker than the details were updated to the the site so she just went down the post office for the tax.
Just an update for you. If you go online, you have to purchase your tax disc a month in advance so that it gives them time to process it and send it out before your old disc expires... which also means that they have your money for a month, earning interest!!! Not a bad little earner! I'll keep using my local Post Office!
