Can the insurance companies find out about points on your licence if you don't tell them? Are they able to contact the dvla directly?

not too sure on that, but most companies ask to see a copy of your driving licence, one things for sure if you dont tell them and you have a accident, and then they find out, they will not pay out,and you could be left thousands of pounds out of pocket.and really you will be driving round with no insurance all the time, because it will be invalid, and then the police will charge you,is it really worth it.
First of all you are obliged to tell your insurance company if your licence is endorsed.

I would imagine that you will be found out. Motor Insurers aren't stupid and have all sorts of sophisticated databases at heir disposal. When you come to renew your insurance you will be asked if you have occured any convictions and it will look a bit bad if you mention something that happened a few months back. I expect that the insurers liaise closely with DVLA.

If you don't inform the company, your insurance will more than likely be declared void and you will find it very difficult to get insurance in the future,

I have written this under the assumption that you are in this predicament rather than just asking a general question. My apologies if this seems blunt, but it is well known that you are abliged to inform your insurer of any relevant convictions.

Three points put my premiums up by 46.
If you do not tell your insurance company about the points you have amassed, it is known in law as 'obtaining a pecuniray advantage' ie getting cheaper insurance!!! It's best you tell them.
