306 key fob

i have a 1995 1.9dturbo 306 i bought recently and the remote central locking key doesnt work. its a two button remote and i have tried changing the batteries. i was wondering if anyone knows if a one button key will work on it too?also what do the two buttons do on my key if they were to work.as these are cheaper.any help will be appreciated thanks.
