Corsa

I recently had to tow my daughter's Corsa. To do this you have to screw a hook into the chassis at the front in order to attach the tow rope. This hook has a left-hand thread. Why?

I've got to ask - why would you want to attach it anywhere else?!

Quite. There is nowhere else on the car where you could attach the hook. I just wondered why it had a left-hand thread instead of a right-hand one.

Could it be something to do with the way tow-ropes are made? Perhaps as they are pulled, tow ropes tend to try to untwist anti-clockwise and tow hooks have a left-hand thread to prevent the rope from unscrewing them.

More than likely 2 reasons.
1 is thet steel has a grain, and for things like crane hooks and car pulling bits, the grain shouldn't run across the item, only with the item, to give strength.
2 nd reason, is so when you loose the bolt, you have to go and buy a new one from Vauxhall, who have your pants down on the price
