Old Panda seat headrests removal

I have an old (G reg) Panda 900 Bella, and according to the handbook you can fold front and rear seats down to make a double bed! The only problem is I cannot for the life of me remove the front seat head rests as the instructions describe. I've twiddle, pushed pulled and become prety violent, but they don't shift. Can anyone help??
