I have heard you can go on a course via the police and if you do they will remove all of your speeding points, apparently you have to watch a gruesome video or something. Firstly is this true and secondly do they also remove a d & d?

I'd be surprised. We'd all do it wouldn't we? I'd be even more surprised if they'd let you off d&d by watching a video.

What you may have heard of is the 'speed awareness course' normally offered to people as an alternative to a fixed penalty for minor speeding offences, 35-37mph in a 30.
If it had been an available alternative in your area, it would have been given as an option at the time of conviction.

I think there's a confusion.

In some areas magistrates have an option to offer to send speeding offenders on a "speed awareness course" rather than points and fine.

I think its normally used when the spped is not all that high - don't expect it as an option if you've been doing 110 on the M1.

It's not a retrospective option to "wipe your license"

Last year my sister got caught speeding, I believe she was doing something like 36 in a 30 zone, so not a major speeding offence. She was offered to either have 3 points on her licence and a fixed penalty fine or the option to go on a course for a day where you learnt about the dangers of speeding, etc. With the second option she avoided getting points for that offence but did have to pay 60 to go on it. I believe they only do this for the lesser offences, so you wouldn't be offered it if you were doing 60 in a 30. Maybe that's what you have heard and it's been slightly misunderstood.

I didn't mean it like that, I just couldn't think of a better way to phrase it.

can i just ask... WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM?

30 is there for a reason - the reason is it's traditional!

It's a speed limit that was set long before there was any research to justify that.

Do you think the speed limit would be 48.28 if we used Km/h?

The research has been selected and the adverts created to justify the existing speed limits.

Nobody sat down to review on a scientific basis what the speed limits should be.

If they had they would have pointed out that stopping distance is more important and insisted that all new cars have ABS fitted instead of waiting for the EU to insist on it.

I'm not condoning stupid speeding and automatic bans for people doing over 30mph over the speed limit are totally apropriate.

But anybody who thinks 32mph in a 30 is such a big deal needs to get off of their high horse and have their gullibility quotient checked!

And No I don't have any points on my license I just dislike Government propaganda that treats me and everybody else like an idiot
