Hi,

I have an Audi A6,2.5tdi avant, with a triptronic gear box, on a '99' plate, it has done 103,000 miles and I am the 2nd genuine owner from new.Up until 6 months ago, this car ran as smooth as a nut, with plenty of Va Va Voooooom...........But now...When I start her up and pull away and the gear box is in auto mode, she is completely gutless, and 98% of the time, will not go over 30 mph, with my foot flat to the floor.. I find I have to switch the gear box over to manual, and then the car will reluctantly pick her feet up and go faster, but I also find even driving with the manual gear box, she is strugglerling to change gear, and at times, it seems as though the gear box is slow to respond to the change in gear, often there might be a kick back from waiting for the gear box to catch up, the information the computer is telling the gear box what gear to be in..........But then after say 3 or 4 miles she will suddenly drive as though nothing is wrong, and I can switch the gear box back to auto and all is fine.

We have had the car pluggged into a diagnostic computer to try and find a fault,2 faults appeared and they were fixed, and now there are no none faults shown on the system.

Any ideas anyone......From a frustrated Audi A6 driver, who would rather be driving a AudiTT.

Thanks.............AudiTT....xx.

sounds like maybe ur air mass meter has gone. this is common with VAG.did they garage tell u wat the faults were?take it back to them and tell them that the problem is still there and if they were any decent garage the shouldnt charge u but take ur receipt anyway.the air mass meter is found to the left hand side under the bonnet under a panel held down by 2 screws on the air intake pipe from the filter housing if u can access it disconnect the multiplug and drive the car to see if it makes a difference (car should go into limp mode doing this)if the car performs better then that is ur problem but pretty sure it is anyway.hope that is of some help

One of the faults shown was the air mass meter, that was replaced, and another fault was repaired...That escapes me!!! Still no better........But their diagnostics computer showed no other faults........AudiTT.

I'm afraid that I can't see how it could be the air mass metre if it worked better in semi auto than full auto. Sound more like a problem with the brain to me. As with any computer, the diagnostics might tell you that everything is now fine, but remember that they only check a certain amount of things.

See if you can get a garage to try another brain for it (borrow - don't go to the expense of fitting it)
Hope this helps.
hey again just reading ur msg again.i have also come across a problem very very like this b4 and it started with a air mass meter the car was still the same, it came down to the fuel pump was faulty and not enough fuel was being delivered wen driving. if u have a 17mm spanner u should see the fuel pipes goin to the injectors slacken them all and get sum1 to crank the engine over the fuel should spurt out of the pipes if the pump is faulty the fuel will just trickle out and u would see tiny air bubbles out of the pipes if that is the case then i wud b lookin to get the pump sent away to get repaired although it can b very costly!!! hope this helps

any luck?

Hubby, is meant to be doing an oil change this week, so he says he will have a go at your suggestion!!!!

It is a pig to drive, and I am starting to dislike driving the car, if he has no joy then I am going to have to put the car into another garage and see if they can work out what is wrong...............I'll keep you posted!!!! Thanks.

Hi AudiTT - what was the outcome of the problem?
