I have just been clocked doing 71mph in a temporary motorway 40mph zone. Will I get banned?

Technically yes. Exceed the speed limit by more than 30 mph and it is classed as dangerous driving.
However there has to be "a margin of area' in the equipment which is usually set at 10% so you may just get away with it -just!
I'm no angel but that was a bit silly wasnt it?
mmaybe you should change your name to lead boots instead of coppershoe : )
I hope so, I would like to live longer.
gary baldy said it all really. You might try pleading for mercy if there were special circumstances but realistically you should expect a hefty fine and at least a short ban. The fact that it was only a temporary limit may help your defence if you're really lucky.
