A 3 series petrol automatic with average mileage would be between
£2000 & £3000.

ok - thanks - never seen a car in such great condition for 13 years old - but diesel and manual, don't know about the mileage though

The owner will tell him how much he wants, not how much anyone would pay. There can be a huge gap between the two

Mileage is a big factor. There are lots of variants, for example a 318 base model would be worth a lot less than a 330 sport model.

Regardless of the price and condition I would advise you against buying any diesel car as they are very inefficient when only driven on a few short journeys week in, week out. They are much better for high mileage drivers
