can u fit a diesel engine to a vw 1600 1978 camper van. if so what type of engine is this possible with .do the later diesel engines for the camper fit into this model

i know volkswagen used to fit a 1.6 diesel in the type25 and that model used to have the type 4 pancake engine that was fitted to the late bay window buses.

yes you can ive done it. i fitted a peugeot deisel engine from a 205 about 7yrs ago. i since done about 30000 miles averaging about 42 mpg .as a bonus it now has heater that works.after initial teething problems mainly exhaust and providing enough cooling its been trouble free and i consider well worth doing
