My old Beema is 04, just had a letter from BMW H.Q. that my car needs to go in to replace some parts in the Front (6) Air Bags, how's that for service?

Indeed EcclesCake .

I can't see any car manufacturer spending money like this, unless they have to
Good marketing to make the inconvenience of a defective product in to caring customer service, though

Hans, I have searched for every detail regards this car, from the day it was made to the present date, every recall & whatever that's been ask from previous owns to myself, nothing has been missed, thanks for your link though.

Motor manufacturer fulfils it's obligations regards recall,
they really have no choice so why all the back slapping,
they are doing what they have to do and no more.
TWR, I think you're being a tad naive to think this is simply a goodwill gesture. How long have you had the car for? The or against issue is unite longstanding, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on it in the motoring press.
Some shocking typos/autocorrects that even I cannot fathom there!

If it helps clarify unite = quite.
Cheers TWR. I am pleased that you appreciated my link which, whilst I feel sure may not have given any up-date information for you, could be useful to other ABers.

Hans.

Can anyone see where I have Typed " Goodwill Gesture" I'll be dammed if I can see it.
Ok, good after sales service. However, it isn't the re simply meeting their obligation. Had you been chuffed at the thought of your cat getting a free wash n vac I may have agreed but you sneered and mocked them.
For those people that are too busy working a full valet would be gratefully received no doubt.
Question Author
As usual, divert the post.
how would they get in touch with the current owners if they weren't the original purchasers?

a cat having a wash n vac? oh my, Eccles !!!
Question Author
I might take the cat to get valeted though.
How is a post diversion?

I wouldn't have the nerve to wash and vac. a cat, not no way!
How are cars recalled?

Recalls are governed by the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency (VOSA) and are only issued when there is a genuine safety concern. When a manufacturer wants to recall a car, it contacts VOSA, which issues a recall number. It then accesses ownership data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency so that current owners of vehicles involved in the recall can be contacted.

Much as the car makers like to keep in touch with owners, as cars get sold on the manufacturers lose touch with owners – that’s why the DVLA has to be involved.
Some problems with cars can be covered off by manufacturers issuing service bulletins, so dealers can carry out remedial work when a car is in for service work. However, when the problem is safety-related, nothing can be left to chance and a full recall is the only way to ensure all owners are contacted and offered the free fix.

A letter is sent to the registered owner to advise on the recall and the best cause of action. It’s usually sent out within weeks of the recall notice being issued.

Above may be a little old, but largely still applies.

Not your post Islay.
It's on a public forum with all due respect TWR.

Glad you're getting yours sorted.
