each day there is concerns over stowaways getting into the trailers at Dover, what a simple answer to detect them, wired into the Units Electric supply, CCTV's in the trailers that's boxed out of reach and at such an angle they can not be covered for detection, these can be the size of the rivets used to put the roof / sides / even a curtain sided / Fridge box trailer, why has this not been discussed? or has it?

Not sure I've seen it discussed, one for the hauliers to consider.

I always thought the problem was Refugees getting into the trailers in Calais.

And another thing, given the number of trailers that enter the UK via Dover, who's going to check all this CCTV footage?
Question Author
The driver of course.

Ah, yes, of course.
Random whirling knives descending from the roof and walls of the trailer would help solve the problem too.
I realise it's a work in progress idea but one I'm sure could be a winner.
As drivers are being offered £2000 cash by people smuggling gangs for each illegal migrant they hide in their truck I am sure a lot of them are not stowaways in the normal sense of the word.
A win / win situation for the driver, cash if he gets away with it , and if they are found he just denies everything.
I remember hearing that less than 14% of commercial vehicles coming into the UK get any sort of check at all, so most will get away with it.

stop all ferries immediately until the french do something
i guarantee the problem would be solved in under 3 days
The French don't want them, they're quite happy for them to go. If our social system was the same for immigrants as France immigrants wouldn't be so eager to come here, we're a soft touch and that's why they come.
Immigrants should get nothing until they have paid into the system for at least five years. That would stop them coming!

Jesus Boaty you can't say that on here, just think about the "Feel sorry Brigade" please rephrase your post!!!
:o} The Feel Sorry Brigade are in their own little world, which has no concept of reality!
Come on TWR, you know how dark it is inside most trailers. How is the driver going to see with these tiny cameras?

Would the driver check the CCTV Monitor while he's driving, I would have thought that was illegal, or would he have to run through it in his enforcrd downtime?
Question Author
Hop, they do have trailer lighting you know. the driver looks through his / her mirrors whilst driving, what's the difference.
I believe profit margins in the haulage business are small.
Question Author
It is I agree Zac, but it cost's the Haulage company a lot more in fines, Lighting in trailers is straight forward & can be linked up to the trailer light's through the Lighting Coupling, Hop, you have only to see the size of CCTV's on the market they are the same as the Trailer Reversing Cameras, that's my views anyway.
TWR, you couldn't legally look at a video screen while driving.

My point exactly ^^ at 21:39
MkII. A diversion pipe from the exhaust system of the truck, fitted with scrubbers to remove any sooty particulates likely to damage the cargo, leave only deadly gases in the load space.

And machine guns, lots of them.
