2 Trucks, One Driver
They'll only be there on a trial basis (in 2019) though and it'll be monitored closely. Similar trials in other countries have been promising. They'll presumably need to satisfy the relevant authorities that they have proper controls in place to not put lives of other users at risk, and there will be drivers available in the following cabs.
It'll be interesting to see how it goes. I think as more and more vehicles are self drive it probably will be successful and a sign of the future.
I think we're having drivers in our driverless lorries, Tambo. Health and Safety and all that.
I suggest they run them only overnight
Don't worry, the trial will prove it's unworkable.
They said that about Sinclair C5's, hopkirk.
I don't feel safe with driver-driven lorries at present- one ploughed into the back of me years ago and I still get flashbacks whenever a lorry comes close. I think it'll be at least 5-10 years though before it becomes viable. We already have driverless buses in some parts of the US, driverless trains in London and parts of our flight are done on auto pilot
As I've said over night is the perfect time to do
Am I right in saying that accidents are caused by people ? I cannot wait to see ALL vehicles driverless on our motorways. Anything that is correctly controlled by a faultless computer will see the end of RTAs.

I wonder how the Driverless will deal with a Trailer Wheel Loss / Blow out, an insecure load in transit Yes it does happen, are you thinking, all negative replies by me? Been there and seen the video I'm afraid to say.
Driverless vehicles will be common place in the future and obviously the beginnings have to begin at some point in time

Hell , star ships will also be common place in the future .
Oh , hang on...
They already do it in Australia, Road trains with just one driver in the lead truck. Just the next step.
More than 80% of all road accidents are caused by driver error, driverless vehicles will be much safer.
The massively long dirt roads in Australia are rather different to the busy UK motorways with their exits every few miles.
The truck that is moving 0.00001mph faster than the platoon of 3 trucks will now block the overtaking lane for 28 miles (or more) in the course of completing its overtaking manoeuvre…….
Life in OZ Would be impossible with out the road train.

They are one of the reasons OZ can sell coal throughout the world at less than 20% of the price of underground mined coal.
