when i lift my foot off the clutch it makes a squeaking noise.. does this mean that my clutch is bout to go?

i sometimes find it difficult to change to second gear? could this be linked?

the car in question is a bmw

If your clutch was on the way out then you would have increased revs but no change in speed as a worn clutch would slip. Squeaking could be a dry clutch release bearing (not serious, only annoying) or maybe you just need to lubricate the bush that the clutch pedal pivots on. Re changing to second gear a dodgy clutch would cause difficulty engaging any gear particularly first gear as you would feel and hear it. Could just be a worn syncromesh (the gismo that aligns gear wheels when you change gear).
