Does the AA impose a call-out limit on its members? I have only caled them out three times in the last 30 years but was told on the last occasion that because some members abuse the service they will either limit the number of call-outs or even refuse to renew membership. Anyone had experience of this ?

The AA is a form of insurance, anyone who claims too often would be persona non grata. I'm sure 3 times in 30 years is not a problem. They essentially will not want you if you've got a car that breaks down a lot or if they suspect some sort of abuse of the system.

I used to work for a company who ran the RAC's computer systems and we used to print letters to people regarding their callout history. Persistent offenders with the same registration number and fault were declined renewal after a certain number of callouts. The recovery services point is that they are there to recover people after unexpected faults not for people who refuse to get their cars fixed.
I once got a letter from the RAC telling me that if I called them out again, I would have to pay for the callout.  At the time I had an old wreck that broke down with a different fault (fuel injection, clutch, alternator etc) about every 6 weeks, so I did call them quite regularly.  Soon after that I got rid of the thing and got a newer car
Hi there, I work at the AA, happen to have read this thread and thought I may be able to help by clarifying this point. In brief, the AA does apply call out limits to membership breakdown cover which is designed to keep the membership affordable. Depending on your type of membership, the maximum number of call outs for each membership year are limited to 5 for a Single membership, 7 for Joint membership and 8 for Family. Separate limits apply to vehicle based membership and Stay Mobile.
I hope you found this helpful and if you need further information the link to the AA's website is http://www.theaa.com/...terms-conditions.html
