Going karting for the first time tonight. Anyone got any useful tips? I've got a good idea about racing lines etc from playstation games, but what about the practicalities? Is it better to boot it as much as you can, or take it easyto get the best line? Looks like the track will be wet too....

i wouldn't want to give you any driving tips (i was rubbish when i go-karted!), but i'd advise you to take some padding for your lower back...

me and all of my mates were suffering for a few days afterwards - it felt like i'd been repeatedly kicked in the kidneys!

I have done this lots of times, and the best tip I can give you is that you need to try to carry as much speed as possible through corners, dont brake hard then expect to accelerate out of bends, it wont happen, karts dont have enough torgue to do that, but, when the tyres are nice and hot, they do have the grip to go round bends faster than you might think, so, you can take lots of people coming out of bends as they bog down and have to wait for their karts to get going again.
On hair pins, jab the brakes hard going into it and chuck the back end round then slam on the gas again. After a few laps you'll get the hang of it. Oh, and they say you're not supposed to use the brakes and the accelerator at the same time. Not sure if this is correct. Sure a mate of mine had his foot to the floor all the way round....
