The car is 9 years old, but has been maintained and never missed a service.
About three weeks ago the cruise control started cutting out intermittently and when I got it checked I was told that it needed a replacement "EVG???"
valve which I authorised.
All was well until Saturday when it has started cutting out again.
Sometimes it won't even engage and other times it'll work for quite a few miles and other times it cuts out after 100 yards.
Any ideas before I put it into the garage again?
Thanks in anticipation.

Sounds much more like something electrical than mechanical, especially an EGV. I can't imagine that a device for recycling exhaust gasses has anything to do with cruise control. But I ain't no 'chanic. I'd suggest looking on a Vauxhall forum.
The trouble with these garages now, it's a case of illumination at the Motorist Expense, if the cause was not the EVG have them remove & replace the old, contact a Auto Elect, they will solve it, I also think i'ts elc.
might be a wild shot but I have the vectra & if you want to resume your cruise speed after stopping to get petrol for example, strangely it wont work until you have pressed the brake pedal. I always thought it odd that the function was through that route but also pressing the brake pedal stops the cruise control.
I think I would start looking with that bit of the wiring - loose connector etc.
Normally known as an EGR valve, I can't see what an exhaust gas recirculation valve has to do with cuise control.

It sounds to me as though the garage hasn't got a clue.
