Just about to head off on me hols and the engine light is flashing. The Ford garage said that it would need to be looked at by a ford garage and they couldn't say what it was big or small, but wouldn't recommend a 150 mile trip to somerset today. Any suggestions? The garage did say it was a thinking engine and might put itself right - is there any hope?

I have a vauxhall and the engine light on that started flashing, took it to the main dealer who has put it through their computer and on mine the problem  is a sensor that needs changing, personally I think the best thing to do is to have it looked over by a main dea;er to ascertain exactly what the problem is, it may be just a sensor it maybe smething bigger you just cant tell, I suppose the question is does there seem to be any change in power when the light comes on i.e. do you notice any difference or does everthing stay the same if it stays the same then it is probably a sensor playing up.but have it checked over just to make sure. Good Luck.
