is it true that one must now renew a driving licence every 10 years ?and if so, how do you go about it ? I would assume that the DVLA would have sent a reminder.....

Yeah. I suppose your face could change quite a bit in 10 years, or its to make more money.

I haven't invested in a photo license yet so don't know if they send a reminder. I would have thought so.
If you have a photocard licence then it must be renewed every ten years (at a cost of £20).

If (like me) you still have an old "pink 'un" then it lasts until you are 70 (or move house) when your first photocard licence is free.

Your first photocard licence is free?
Whilst unaware of the details I know my woman has to renew hers now. I still have the non photo one. Blooming catch penny if you ask me. Whoever pushed the photo thing through ought to pay the continuing costs from their own bank account and not inflict it on the rest of us.
Only if you are aged 70 or have moved house.
Yes, I've just had to renew mine and I was sent a reminder. I now have it back and it lasts 10 years. I also had to send a photo because my passport has less than 5 years on it. They must link up the 2 systems.

many thanks for your replies.....I had to change from a paper one to a photo one , courtesy of my dog who gave it a good chew...had I known that I could get a free one when aged 70, I would have waited a couple of years......
I was wondering if I was being a fugitave by still having my 'pink' license... obvs not... *phew*
