Can you let me know how to remove the old steering lock barrel on a N reg Ford Fiesta? The old key is worn and will not operate.I have a new kit of parts from Ford, but can't get the old barrel out

look at the new barrel assembly. near the opposite end from where the key goes in, you will find a sort of spring clip that snaps in place when the barrel is installed. the trick is to drill a hole around 2mm diameter in the steering lock housing to line up with this device. the key will need to be in the lock before it will let you press in this clip via the hole you drilled to release it. if the car has an airbag, disconnect the battery first! if this does'nt work, it's a new steering lock assembly...
why not replace the key

Thanks to all the suggestions, but the job has been done now - press in the release pin on the top of the lock, turn the key so that the circlip on the back of the barrel lines up with the cutout in the cylinder. Replace the discs and re-fit in the reverse order
