I bought an M reg Ford Fiesta Sapphire - 1.3 a couple of days ago and have noticed that occasionally the engine cuts out. Usually happens whilst slowing down when approaching traffic lights or junctions etc. Engine starts up again immediately but i'm wondering what the problem could be and how much it's likely to cost!

A friend said her old Fiesta used to do the same thing...is this a Fiesta quirk??

Well as is is a car you just bought the first thing is to change the air filter cartridge or even check that one is fitted in the casing!! This sounds a bit like fuel mixture problems so the air filter would affect this.
