Generally if your clutch is on the way out you put your foot on the accelerator, the revs go up but the car moves slowly as the clutch plates slip over each other before they start to rotate at the same speed.

A bit like if you were driving with the clutch half depressed.

Difficult to say how much it costs because it depends on the car. In some cases the whole engine has to be removed to do it which obviously makes it more expensive.

Can't be too nasty on a Saxo these guys are quoting 185

ok thanks for that jake, i appreciate that. what would it be best to do then? just wait until it goes? or get it done now? i no it might sould like a silly question but im not really sure how much life it will have in it. thank you for your help!

If it goes on you it'll leave you stranded and you'll have to be towed to the nearest (not the cheapest) garage and you'll be without transport until it's done.

If you're confident it's on the way out I'd ring round and get some quotes rather than wait until it's immobile on somebody's forecourt and they've got you by the short and curlies

I was always told that one way of testing the condition of a clutch is to put the car in top gear, apply the hand-brake then release the clutch pedal. If the clutch is OK the car should stall. Must admit, I've never tried it.

oh right, well spose itd better start ringing around then! maybe il try the stalling thing eh! cheers people
it's hard to say how much longer it wil last matey. the test is second gear , handbrake fully on and a little throttle. if the revs stay the same and you dont feel the car trying to move then it's a safe bet that it's a dead un.

ok thanks v64paul, ill try that and see what happens. thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!
