Google suggests M6, M40, M25 and a time of under 4 hours.
Realistically, what time would I have to leave to be sure of arriving soon after 11 (in time to find my destination by 11.30 with time to spare), on a Wednesday morning.

You'll be hitting the tail end of Birmingham rush hour with those timings. I'd err on the side of caution, if you find you are too close, too early rest up and enjoy a coffee and croissant over the papers.

Thanks, but I was wondering how much extra I needed to add to the Google 'best times' to be sure of getting there in time. How long are morning delays on M6, M25 etc
I know this isn't helpful but how long is a piece of string? You will be travelling through many traffic black spots, to be sure of arriving at your chosen destination I would add an hour for contingency that when close to your destination can be consumed with a relaxing brunch.
A483 to Shewsbury, A5 To M54 >J5 A442 >>> Kidderminster>>> M5 >> M42>>then Joining the M40, >>J4 A404 >>M404>> To the M4, Head West to J10>>A/M329>>on to the M3>> Continue on the A322 over the M3 >>to Guildford. If you are prpaired to do this route you will get there on time.
I`ve done Chester Heathrow in 3 +hours but that was at night. I`m not sure about the M6 (it was a long time ago) but the M40 is nearly always quiet. The part of the M25 between the M40 and Heathrow can be horrendous at rush hour but it shouldn`t be too bad at the time you will be there. That section if the journey will be where you will be most likely to encounter problems though. The M25 is so unpredicable. All it takes is one accident and you`re scuppered. I`d add about 30 mins to account for the M25 at that time of the day.
I would want to be leaving Chester no later than 5:30am, were it me. That way you should avoid the build up of traffic on the M6 around Birmingham. M40 should be pretty clear, but then you have the stretch of the M25 from J16 - J10 A3 Guildford, which is always heavy traffic.

J10 A3 - Guildford exit should take no more than 20 minutes or so.
I would allow 4-41/2 hours, when I travel on journeys involving motorways I allow 50 miles per hour.
As for the bottleneck at Birmingham use the M6 toll.
