Usually if its a manual clutch depending on how worn it is when you put your foot on the gas the car will not accelerate away as well because the clutch plate is slipping against the flywheel.

If its an auto not sure of if any warnings , I had one go a few years ago and there were no warning signs, i was at the lights went to pull away and nothing happened, engine just revved but no movement whatsover

It is a manual car and I've not noticed anything to do with accelerating. I have noticed however, that sometimes when stopping in 2nd gear and when putting clutch down there is a noise from under car. Can't describe noise but seems "mechanical".
Put the car in a high gear while driving and floor the throttle... if the revs rise and the speed doesn't the clutch is going.

It sounds like you have a worn thrust bearing if it's making a noise when you put your foot on the clutch when stopped.... if so then ignore it, it's annoying but no more than that. not worth doing anything about it until the clutch plates need changing.

and "traditional" automatics don't have clutches at all.

Thanks for answers. The noise seems to happen, every once in a while, when I'm stopping the car, not when it has stopped. Is it the same thing?
If the noise happens when you are stopping the car maybe you should be looking at a braking problem and not a clutch problem, exactly when does the noise happen.
Does it effect the car going into gear? it it hard to engage gears? I'm sure you are looking in the wrong area. what make of car perol / derv?
Do you have a "Warning light coming from your dashboard? ( Brakes)
The clutch release bearing went on my Vauxhall Belmont years and years ago. It started out as a kind of whining sound and progressed over the following weeks to shrieking like a banshee when the clutch pedal was depressed. Had the whole lot replaced for £90 by Mr. Clutch in Stockport (but that was nearly 20 years ago)

The car is a renault megane and it´s diesel. There are no warning lights on dashboard. The other day I noticed it was making the noise when in low gear and turning corners. Can´t be very precise about it though as I notice something different every time. Went to change one of the lights in a garage and told the bloke. He had a quick look and saw that the disc pads were finished, so he changed them. Now the noise hasn´t happened since but I am giving it some more time as it doesn´t always make the noise. Will post again if it continues but thanks.
The noise you heard in my opinion was the brake pads, when worn & the brakes applied you have metal meeting metal & the friction pad ( Brake) Front, meeting the disk. ( Metal to Metal)
