Give the blades a wipe the part that actually touches the screen with some vinegar, this will degrease them.
Or you could replace them with arms/blades like these:

http://compare.ebay.c...s&var=sbar&adtype=pla

They consist of a single plastic bar with a rubber blade, no metal parts, and none of those complicated mechanisms to exert pressure on the screen. We get them in a local Chinese shop for five euros a pop. and think they are the biggest improvement in wiper technology in years.
Over time the wiper arms get twisted and need adjusting, the juddering is caused by the wiper blade not flipping over correctly, twisting the wiper arm carefully should cure it.

If it doesn't buy new wiper arms.
Try applying "Rain X" liquid to the outer surface of the windscreen and/or replace your wiper blades if they are more than c. 1yr old.
As MantaRay said RainX is good stuff, I use it and very rarely even switch the wipers on in heavy rain as the rain floats of the screen over 40 mph
