i think its a good idea and have wondered it myself in the past - nothing to do with being a nanny state - anymore than being madeto wear a seatbelt or not use a mobile is being a nanny state - speeding is a problem so why not try to solve the problem at the start - obviously education, awareness courses etc etc dont work...

what is the point of having a fiat punto or...

Which particular speed limit?
Question Author
Well id assume the national one probobly? Saves anyone speeding? Xx
1.Because there are times when you are legally doing 70 up the motorway and something happens and the safest course of action is to accelerate away from it.
2 because you can take your car on a trackday and have a blast.
3 because folk take their cars abroad where speed limits are different.
4 because i do not want to live in any more of a nanny state than we have now.
More accidents happen on "local" roads (30mph or 40mph) than on motorways.

So how do you control cars going above 30mph in a 30mph limit road?

Do you perhaps fit a device to EVERY car that controls its speed limit.

And do you then fit devices in EVERY street that stops cars going above the speed limit for that street.

I am sure if Mr Cameron announced this and said it was going to cost 10 billion pounds or whatever he would be very popular.

Tinkerbell, suggest you THINK about things before making flippant suggestions.
Tink is evidentally bored today :)
Don't suppose it would cost a great deal so fit a sat-nav device to all new vehicles to restrict the top speed to coincide with the local speed limits. I would guess at not more than £100 or so. This would also recognise when you were on a track or driving abroad with different speed limits.
I could see a lot of older cars increasing in value as the cost of retrofit would be prohibitive.
tinks never made a flippant suggestion.she asked a question.a valid question.
i was told off a traffic policeman that you NEVER have to accelerate to get out of an accident.
The technology will come... one day we may not even have to 'drive' just programme in a route and switch on...
I nearly forgot, congrats on passing your Driving Test 3 weeks ago, it's always good to hear the voice of experience.
