My Peugeot 206 '03 plate has a hole in the exhaust. I took it to my local garage and he said it shouldn't fall off yet, as the hole is quite small.

I asked him if he could patch repair it, but he said he couldn't do it.

I was just wondering whether this is possible, as I was hoping to prolong the life of the exhaust.

I use silicone sealant and sticky alluminium tape, that usually lasts for 12 months and also passes the MOT if it's a small hole. I don't know where you get the tape, afriend gave me mine.
Generally unlikely to be cost effective.

depending on where the hole is you'd probably have to remove the exhaust section, cut away to good metal, fabricate a patch, weld it and put the exhaust back.

Workshop time is pretty expensive and it would almost certainly be cheaper just to replace the exhaust section especially on a relatively cheap car.

Incidently it's quite outrageous that cars aren't routinely fitted with stainless steel exhausts it would add a really small amount to the cost of the car and I've had mine on my MGB for over 10 years and 100,000 miles now
have you priced an exhaust ? not always as expensive as you think. i had 2 x 206 both of them required rear boxes within 3 years old, they only cost about £15 + vat !!!
I don't actually think that garages are allowed to weld exhausts or maybe just their insurances that wont permit it. risk of explosion from fumes I imagine!
garages weld panels/chassis (MIG) so an exhaust isnt really a problem its just usually a short term measure though..
as its difficult to weld with rust present which most exhausts are when they requiring welding , no guarantee it will hold.
In my experience any effort to avoid buying a new exhaust is a waste of time and money.
You don't need to buy a whole new exhaust, it depends where the hole is - I only had to buy a new back end.
no point in trying to bodge it, if you need a new exhaust, then you need a new exhaust!..........
Find your loacl East European or Pakistani garage, they will weld it up for you.
