According to Ford I don't need to change the cambelt on my W reg 2 ltr petrol Mondeo until 90-100,000 miles, but a good local garage recommends it being changed as part of a kit at 45,000. Any advice welcomed; I don't want to waste money unnecessarily, but on the other hand I don't want to take any risks. Thanks guys ( and girls !)

change it now. at worst you spend a little money now.it's big money when the belt snaps.

If you do it every 45k then you know it wont snap cause when it does you will be looking at a few bent rods and no car for a week and a rather large expense

Ford told me 100000 miles, or 10 years, whichever is the sooner. Mine has 79000 on, and i am getting it done. Had a cambelt go before, and won't risk it again.
