Does anyone else have a problem with toyota avensis engines losing oil. Mine loses about a litre every 1000 miles.

Do you really mean "loses" as opposed to "uses"?   Is there any sign of leakage?

All internal combustion engines are meant to burn oil and yours certainly seems to go through more than normal but I'm almost certain that the manufacturer will tell you that it's within design tolerances.  I remember reading that 500 miles per pint [880 per litre] was classed as normal even though we mostly expect to go between services without topping up.

ianess - The car is not losing oil as there are no leaks. I had it at the garage and was told that there is an acceptable level of oil loss in this type of engine and that mine was within this tolerance. I just think it is unusual as this never happened to any of my previous cars. I used to have a wee fiesta and the oil never bunged an inch!

Cheers.
