Not always - near me, there is a long straight road which attracts idiot bikers - they use covert cameras.

another question while im here, regarding a speed camera, is there a certain amout of mileage they will not get you for, i know on some stationary cameras theres a tolerance of say 5 miles eg you could be doing 54mph in a 50mph area and you wouldnt get flashed
No.
I think they allow you at least 10%, but you can't rely on that. Your speedo could legally be misreading by 10% aswell.
Yes by law they do - Also all cameras have to be able to be seen which is why they are painted yellow.

However the sign may be a long way from the camera and I don't know what the rule abut distance from sign to camera is.
tell that to the Worcester police who set up a speed camera in the back of a transit van operating through a window in the back door panel. The road signs at the top of the hill stated 50mph and speed cameras ahead (not mobile camera area ahead) and the van wasn't marked yellow.
Captain didn't it have some sort of black and white markings on the van and was clearly marked, Survaillance unit or such. They don't have to say mobile just camera.
however you may have a case if you can say you were not able to distinguish the camera.

I was done by a speed gun on the A1 - copper on a bridge but this is different?? so possibly the rules on mobile rather than static may be different.
What is the problem? Don't you adhere to speed limits?
Hopefully I don't need a case as i passed it at the weekend and so am hoping nothing drops through the letterbox from the DVLA .... didn't see anything on the van as it was parked at an angle with the rear pointing at the oncoming traffic. Think I may have been about 53/54 in a 50mph zone but do the usual thing where you follow the speed of the flow of the traffic. No excuse I know as it's my responsibility ...
they do speed checks often in certain main roads where I live lately the vans have been plain white with the camera looking out of the back, they do not give any warning either to oncoming traffic. the van is positioned quite well so that the cars cannot see it.
I got caught three years ago and was given the option of swapping the fine and three points for a Safer Driving Seminar. What surprise though the seminar still cost £60!!!The traffic officer taking the course told us that you are allowed 10% plus 2mph so in 70mph zone that would be 77mph
^ wouldn't that be 79?
forgot to add on the 2mph so total would be 79mph
Watch this if you think speed cameras comply with the rules !

Not all cameras have to be yellow and signposted. Stricter rules on camera visibility in "netting off" or Safety Camera Partnership Schemes were applied from June 2002. The high visibility yellow colouring of Safety Cameras makes the Partnership eligible to reclaim operational expenses but exemptions can be made where it is deemed that yellow colouring is not suitable for some site locations.

Non-Safety Camera Partnership Scheme cameras need no indication whatsoever.

Police forces (and individual police officers) are not obliged to work strictly within ACPO guidelines in regard of deciding when to issue a 'ticket', but most do. See the table under 'The Guidance' here:
http://www.pepipoo.co...cement_guidelines.htm

All police officers are expected to comply with ACPO's operating procedures with regard to speed cameras:
