I have a problem where the electric window in my ford escort seems to open unevenly. I guess there are two motors and one is gripping whereas the other isn't. Any ideas?

There is one motor per window. The motor turns an arm which raises or lowers the window by way of a scissor link arrangement. The window is held within guide rails at its front and rear edges to keep it level while it is operated. Uneven opening or closure usually results from a lack of grease/dirty grease on the moving parts and undue friction within the guide rails. Lubrication often sorts this problem out, depending on how early you catch it.

Try spraying some lubricant down the guide rails - this is where either end of the window slides up and down. PTFE based lubricant is best but WD40 will work though you'll have to do it frequently.

If it continues to go up and down unevenly then you need to take the door panel off. Behind the panel will be a thick polythene sheet to stop water getting inside the car from the inside of the door. Remove the sheet making sure not to rip it. Try the electric window again and you'll be able to see what's happening/going wrong. The guide rails have a tendency to move so with the window at the very bottom slacken the guide rail and push the window and guide back so it's a very snug fit. Retighten and try the window. Put plenty of lubricant on the guides!
