Last week i was given company car which had been a previous employees car there is 33k on the clock. Yesterday after me adding about 500 miles mostly motorway the clutch burnt out. Could i be to blame or is it something that as happened over time and yesterday was breaking point. (The front two tyres are almost illegal)

Unless you drove the 500 miles with your foot resting on the clutch pedal it's probably down to someone else !

I always use the rest at the side, especially on the motorways. Thanks for clearing that up.
any decent company will put it down to normal wear and tear
I presume it is a modern diesel engine. They do require the clutch to be slipped slightly or they can stall when setting off but some people get a bit carried away with the slipping.
I have seen them done in by particularly bad drivers at as little as 10k - but as derek rightly says it is nothing to do with you unless you spent 500 miles hill starting with a caravan in tow!
