I have a renault megane scenic 1.6 alize Jan1999. I need to change the lower steering ball joints. I have bought the correct parts and have a good knowledge of the car and general repairs, But i dont want to pay massive garage bills if i can do it my self. It looks easy in the haynes manual, but i'd like some advice. Are they hard to replace ? if not can any 1 give advice on changing them.

Hi, jack the car up and use SAFTEY IN MIND, take the wheel off & mark the Track rod ball joint with TAPE to make sure you replace to the right lenghth, Clean the nut then use WD 40 to lubricate the nut/thread then remove, do the reverse to re-fit, can be done in an hour.
SAFETY IN MIND !!

Once you have jacked the car up make sure you back up the jack with axle stands!!

Always get the tracking done after renewing the joints.

As you have called them "Lower Steering BallJoints" I presume you mean the Ball joints just behind the wheel hubs not the Track Rod Ends.Joints, to get the proper instructionsfor that go to this forum..............

yes Toureman i mean the ball joints and not the track rod ends I was told what they were when i went to have 2 tyres fitted

Well it is not as easy as you think. Even though I have bought an aftermarket steering ball joints from http://www.iautobodyparts.com/mg/ to change, but truly couldn’t succeeded. At last I have gone in garage to do this task, although they have taken a charge but did the work very appropriately. However, if you want to try it on your own then jacked the car up, take out wheels, lubricate the nut from rod ball joint and then fit it. However, it would be better to take help of mechanic.
