Hello,

I have a Ford KA R reg. It is losing water from the cooling reservior and it needs topping up everday! Also the engine makes whirring noises after being driven for more than 15 minutes. there's plenty of oil in it. The cooling reservoir does not appear to be leaking, there's no water under the car, and it doesn't look like the hoses leak.... can anyone shead any light, and is it going to be a dear job??

Thermostat ... try replacing the thermostat, if the STAT is stuck close,,,,it maybe restricting water flow..... causing water loss/ top up needed ... although , the fault needs to be looked at by a mechanic.... as it could have a Defective HEAd GASKET - WHICH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED...... NOT A BIG JOB , BUT NOT 10 MINUTE EITHER,,,,,, IVE HAD SIMALAR PROBLEM , FOR FIVE YEARS,,,,, ON A GOLF, - HAD THE HEAD GASKET CHANGED - STILL SOME WATER EVAPORATION.........
try runn ing car with the bonnet open on the drive or car park or summat and look for water drip. keep rubbing the water pipes to see if there is a lil split. check the reservoir cause they can fracture and crack. make sure the fan kicks in as this would lead to the water evaporating as steam as it would boil the water and it would come out the lid of the reservoir. other than that, head gasket
