i bought a 25 1.6 just before christmas.was put off by do-gooders saying i wouldnt be able to get parts etc. but i love my little car it goes like a little rocket and apparently there are enough spares to last at least 15 years
People/media/snobs do rubbish them , but my brother had one and was very impressed.
Not a modern car - but nowhere near as bad as people claim.
well as a former mechanic myself i can safeley say they ARE as bad as people make out!! they are complete s h i t e !!!as for the parts as karenr110 says there are enough aftermarket MECHANICAL parts around but BODY PANELS are a nightmare to get hold of.
It is true that the motoring press' consensus on the car is not one the car can be be impressed with, however, personal ownership as several people have pointed out on this website is the only truly reliable source of information, but requires one to take a risk and purchase the car. The only thing I can say is that Euroncap gave it 2 out of a possible 5 stars in the crash tests, this is simply unacceptable, its not a safe car. For the same money I'm certain you can find something safer and which the motoring publications have independently reviewed as extremely good. If you give me a very rough indication of your budget I'd be glad to offer alternatives to the Rover 25 as I'm a car buff whose not easily swayed by certain publications comments and I love discussing cars. Good luck anyway in purchasing a new car, but do be wary of its safety rating.

I must apologize, upon inspecting the Euroncap website again, I see the Rover 25 has a 3 star rating in the crash tests, not a 2. However, regardless of the lax standards that existed when it was constructed, a 3 star rating is still simply not good enough, as accidents regardless of one's own driver skill do happen. Again I wish you the best of luck in finding a great car.
